About Ebony Johnson, LPC
I built MindClimb for the people nobody quite knew what to do with.
I'm a licensed professional counselor offering online therapy to adults across Colorado. Most of the people I work with are autistic or neurodivergent, many carrying trauma, anxiety, or years of being misunderstood. How I got here involves a scooter, a good therapist, and a very good reason to go to grad school.
How MindClimb got started
I came to this work sideways. In 2020 I started working in mental health care out of curiosity, and I figured a few courses would look good on a resume. Then a therapist introduced me to EMDR, which helped resolve the symptoms I had after a brief, crazy incident while scooting around Chicago. It felt like magic. Everyone responds to EMDR differently, so I won't promise you my result, but it's what sent me to grad school for counseling.
Once I was seeing clients, the same story kept walking in: people-pleasing, burnout, trouble with boundaries, and a lifetime of acting and relating in ways that felt unnatural, because they feared being too difficult or too weird. Some arrived covered in emotional bruises. Many had never received a proper diagnosis, especially if they were female-presenting or people of color. They'd simply been told they were difficult. I wanted them to know their brains work differently and that they are still valuable and capable of success.
Trauma was part of nearly every story. Being different can be traumatic: kindness gets taken advantage of, boundaries are hard to defend, and it's easy to stay in the wrong place for too long.
Then there's culture, a topic that can make a whole room go quiet. I met women of color who'd been handed a life script that said they shouldn't have needs, with nowhere to say they wanted a different path. I'm a Black woman, and I couldn't find a built-in place for that either.
So I built one: a place to talk about the hardest parts of who you are, including being different, race, and culture. A seat, or the whole floor if you need it.
How I work
I listen first.
I help you find language for experiences, emotions, and patterns that have been hard to put into words, and to give yourself permission to have needs in the first place.
We go at your pace.
Vulnerability can feel unsafe, so I move at a speed your nervous system can tolerate. If something feels like too much, tell me and we'll change course.
We plan together.
I bring humor, psychoeducation, and cultural awareness, and we build a treatment plan we review and adjust as your needs change. That might mean questioning a diagnosis that never fit, or sorting out burnout, relationships, and work. I sometimes use standardized questionnaires to track how things are going.
I'm honest about fit.
If I'm not the right person, I'll help you find someone who is. I can also connect you with trusted providers for medication management or psychological assessments.

What I hold myself to
MindClimb runs on four values I call EPIC. I'd like you to hold me to them.
-
Excellence
I show up prepared, I keep learning, and I keep getting consultation on my work.
-
Professionalism
Billing, scheduling, and logistics are part of caring for you, so I treat them that way.
-
Integrity
I tell you plainly what I can and can't do: whether I'm the right fit, which insurance I accept, and what my training is and isn't.
-
Care
Your culture, your identity, and the way your mind works shape everything else I do. And yes, there will be some laughing.
